JAMES McDONALD bids farewell to Britain for another season this afternoon and the Kiwi sensation could well bow out with a winner on his final ride courtesy of Venturous, who looks the bet of the day in the Qatar Stakes (4.55) at Goodwood.

Charlie Appleby’s three-year-old has run with great credit in two of the hottest three-year-old sprints run this season and each time gave the impression a step up to 7f, the trip over which he made his racecourse debut as a two-year-old, would suit.

Fourth to Mr Lupton at York two starts ago, he was only 11th next time in the race won by Stewards’ Cup fancy Dancing Star, but was hampered when beginning to make his challenge and would have been a fair bit closer without playing a hand in the finish.
