Uttoxeter Placepot picks: Tom Segal with his perm for Sunday's card

The two hurdle races which open the Uttoxeter card are decent contests but lack some strength in depth. Consequently, it is worth banking on Harjo in the Cazoo Maiden Hurdle (12.10), after his good effort at Carlisle last time, and Kateira in the mares novices' hurdle (12.48).

Kateira showed more than enough in her two bumper runs to suggest that this is well within her compass, and she is trained by Dan Skelton who won the race last year.

Things get much trickier after that, but Bear Ghylls made a good start to his chasing career in a quality race at Carlisle last month and he should improve a good bit for that run. He has a class edge in the M.I.P. Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (1.23), but it is always risky banking on one in a novice chase and so Benny's Oscar for Skelton goes in too.

The Mike Platt Double Carpet Memorial Handicap Chase (1.58) is not a strong race but it is a competitive one. Discko Des Plages likes the track and ground and is better than he showed last season. He can bounce back to form, while Bitasweetsymphony has a few bits of form that suggest he's on a nice handicap mark.

With only six runners in the Quinnbet Handicap Hurdle (2.33), a couple need to go in as the likely favourite The Changing Man is unproven on soft ground. Having said that, he has a lot more potential than anything else in the race and was really impressive at Ffos Las on his comeback run.

He has to go in but for safety purposes it is worth sticking in Bobo Mac after his easy win at Chepstow earlier in the week.

In the final Placepot leg, the Happy 70th Birthday Viv Chell Handicap Hurdle (3.08), Punctuation could be a class apart. He didn't look a natural hurdler last season but he still got the job done twice and there should be plenty more to come now he steps up in trip.
