US racing tips: Tom Collins believes consistent miler will score at Will Rogers
Dont Tell Noobody
8.15 Will Rogers Downs
1pt win
Taruca
9.45 Will Rogers Downs
2pts win
Horses allocated a double-figure draw at Will Rogers Downs are normally the first ones to put a line through. The Oklahoma track has a big rail bias and those who are four-wide throughout not only give away valuable ground but also race away from the golden highway.
That being said, front-runners or deep closers who are partnered by one of the few talented jockeys at the track are always worth a second look over a mile, with the long run to the first bend allowing smart riders to get a good position.
One of the best riders at the track is David Cabrera, who last week rode six winners and finished in the places on a further eight occasions, from 21 mounts, at Will Rogers.
He looks to have another good book of rides, the best of which could be Don't Tell Noobody in the $26,400 allowance (8.15) contest.
Drawn in gate ten, Cabrera will have to be at his best in the early stages, but this deep closer will be dropping out to the rear anyway and it may just be a case of getting across to the rail as the inside runners scoot clear.
This three-year-old gelding has broken slowly on all of his five career outings but that frailty hasn't stopped him winning, racking up a couple of victories at this track.
Trainer Karl Broberg sent him to this track off the back of a couple of fourth-placed finishes at Sunland Park and Don't Tell Noobody rewarded his creativity at the first time of asking when coming from last to first to win a maiden claimer in March (second and third have won since).
A slow early pace didn't help him on his next outing in claiming company, but he ran on well from the back to take fourth and would have been bang there in another half a furlong.
Don't Tell Noobody returned to the track just 15 days later and made amends under Francisco Amparan, despite a woeful start. He hopped and lost five lengths from the stalls, but steadily progressed through the field and won pretty cosily at the line.
Cabrera is a step up in the jockey ranks and, although Don't Tell Noobody undoubtedly faces tougher opposition here, a fast early pace looks guaranteed and that will suit him down to the ground.
The second selection also comes in allowance company as the Ray Ashford-trained Taruca has cast-iron claims in the $22,000 contest (9.45) under Ken Tohill.
Bought for $100,000 as a two-year-old, Taruca is by far the most expensive purchase in this field and began his career with a maiden claiming victory at Keeneland in 2018, before striking in claiming company at Saratoga four months later.
He has proved extremely consistent over this mile trip ever since and has recorded form figures of 317112322122 in the last year. Taruca is absolutely certain to run his race again and, from a plot draw in gate one, it is hard to see him being beaten.
The five-year-old bumped into Miltontown the last twice and finished a clear-cut second on both occasions, but that rival isn't in the field today and he can take advantage.
