US racing tips: Shane Ketteridge with two Saturday night selections

Bell’s The One
8.50 Churchill Downs
2pts win

Li’l Tootsie
9.22 Churchill Downs
1pt each-way

Churchill Downs hosts some fantastic racing with five stakes races on the card and the 6f Open Mind Stakes has some lovely fillies and mares lining up.

It looks like it will be another duel between Bell’s The One and Sconsin, who won this last year but was being closed on all the way to the line by Bell’s The One.

She was denied by a half a length on that occasion and the pair met again just four weeks ago when Neil Pessin’s mare won the Lady Tak Stakes over course and distance, with Sconsin back in fourth.

This six-year-old has eight wins from nine starts when competing over 6f, and has run some of her best races when competing at Churchill Downs.

She has won five of eleven starts at the track, with three seconds and one third, and comes into this in good form. Regular rider Corey Lanerie takes the ride from stall four and they can make amends for last year's second.

The Thomas Amoss-trained Li’l Tootsie is on a roll having won her last two starts and she can make it a hat-trick in the $400,000 Grade 3 Locust Grove Stakes.

The race features two Kenneth McPeek-trained horses at the top of the market who also have very solid credentials, but Li’l Tootsie holds a strong chance of winning.

She’s a three-time course winner and possesses a lethal mid-race move, which she has used to devastating effect in her seven victories to date.

She is tactically versatile should this turn into a slowly-run race and has a bit of class about her, so she is the value play against the market leaders.
