US racing tips: Shane Ketteridge has two selections on Saturday
Hot And Sultry
8.55pm Oaklawn Park
2pt win
Duvet Day
11.29pm Santa Anita
1pt win
Norm Casse is looking to pick up another stakes race at Oaklawn Park after winning last month's Poinsettia with Pretty Birdie and he saddles the promising four-year-old Hot And Sultry in the American Beauty Stakes over 6f on the dirt.
Hot And Sultry, who was two from three for Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen before joining the Casse barn over the winter, comes off a runner-up finish in an allowance over course and distance having made her first start for her new trainer.
That was on a muddy track and prior to that she had won her last two starts on a fast track, one of which was a valuable allowance at Churchill Downs, so with the forecast sunshine in the Hot Springs area she should get her preferred surface.
This is a filly of some potential. With that latest run under her belt, which was her first for more than five months, she should run a big race. David Cabrera, who was on board last time out, rides again.
An excellent field of nine females go to post for the Astra Stakes at Santa Anita with a purse of $60,000 up for grabs for the winner.
One I like here is the Michael McCarthy-trained Duvet Day, the filly in stall four who is a two-time winner over a furlong less than this 1m4f trip.
Those were back-to-back wins last summer and on both occasions she won with plenty of authority while showing no signs of running out of stamina. That certainly bodes well coming into this.
She was last seen finishing down the field in the Grade 1 American Oaks here last month, but this is a much easier task than that one and I expect her to come with a late run in deep stretch.
