US racing tips: Tom Collins has two Saturday selections at Gulfstream
Positive Review
6.26 Gulfstream
2pts win
Uninvited Guest
10.05 Gulfstream
2pts win
Only trainers Todd Pletcher and Saffie Joseph jnr recorded 50 or more winners at Gulfstream's 2020 winter meet, and both have made an excellent beginning to this year's fixture with 33 and 24 per cent strike-rates respectively.
Unsurprisingly, Pletcher loves to send a powerful team to winter in Florida's warm weather and he has numerous chances of enhancing his impressive course statistics on Saturday.
The pick of his runners might be Uninvited Guest, a $400,000 son of leading sire Distorted Humor who will make his fourth career start in the $43,000 maiden claimer (10.05 Gulfstream).
Uninvited Guest performed with great promise over a sprint trip on his debut at Monmouth, but was completely outpaced on his second start against talented opposition at Saratoga in July.
Pletcher gave him a break after that effort and dropped him to maiden claiming company, upped him in trip and switched to turf on his return at Belmont last month. Uninvited Guest shaped extremely well until he was hampered on the home turn, and hit the line powerfully despite losing his winning chance.
This track should suit him better than Belmont, while the booking of John Velazquez can only be seen as a positive.
Joseph's best chance on the card is undoubtedly Positive Review, who is strongly fancied to get off the mark at the second attempt in the $60,000 maiden special weight (6.26 Gulfstream).
The two-year-old colt has been present on the worktab since May and took plenty of money ahead of his debut at this track in October due to a 46.89sec four-furlong breeze (fastest of 76 workers that day) a week earlier.
He broke a step slowly but showed blistering speed and achieved a solid speed figure, despite being outpointed in the closing stages.
Positive Review drew 11¼ lengths clear of the third and is expected to make amends under Chantal Sutherland.
