Unexposed sprinter is underrated in Stewards' Cup

Watan was second in the Acomb as a juvenile but has slowly worked his way back to sprints and looks an attractive option on the spreads ahead of the Stewards' Cup.

Watan did not run after the Prix Jean Prat last year and returned when finishing second to Nahaarr at Newbury 13 days ago. Far from looking out of place back over six furlongs, he travelled as well as any bar the winner and shaped as though likely to come on for the run.

The two other things to note about that run is that it was a career-best on form, and that he gets a 7lb pull on Nahaarr, who seems likely to go off favourite. Accordingly, Watan is a value buy at just 7 on the index.

The draw is the other thing to consider in the Stewards' Cup and, while 16 is historically not exactly prime location, Watan has pace on either side and plenty of contenders around him, so is unlikely to be left behind.
