Champion's Way is set to continue his rapid rise through the ranks by notching his fifth win on the trot in the Topaz Handicap (10.45) at Sha Tin on Sunday.

The John Size-trained three-year-old is the standout bet on a challenging 11-race card as Hong Kong gears up for its important Champion’s Day on April 28.

Unraced before arriving in Hong Kong, Champion’s Way has stormed up the grades, winning twice at Happy Valley and Sha Tin, and all the while looking like a star in the making.

This is undoubtedly the toughest test so far for the gelded son of Hinchinbrook as not only must he contend with a step up in grade, he also has the widest draw in gate 14.

Interestingly, his last two wins were from wide draws (gate 12 both times) as clearly he had the class to overcome that perceived disadvantage.

Champion’s Way is another Size and Joao Moreira success story that is ready to continue.

The ‘famous five’, who won races at the inaugural meeting at Conghua on March 23, were always going to attract attention in subsequent runs.

The Createth looked distinctly unlucky at Sha Tin last week and should be given another chance, while Lucky Hero looks a good bet on his first start since.

He has an excellent chance of landing the first division of the Ruby Handicap (9.05) for trainer Danny Shum and jockey Vincent Ho as he has been given only a modest rise in the handicap for his historic first-day triumph in China.

Another to keep in mind is King Of Hearts, a very able import who may be seen in his best light since his arrival in the second division (9.35).

He has dropped in grade, has Karis Teetan back aboard, and is blinkered for the first time. It looks like they mean business with this former Group 3 Jersey Stakes runner-up.
