Michael Dods's colt managed only third when backed down to 5-4 favourite on his debut at Newcastle 16 days ago, but there was an obvious excuse.

Drawn in stall 12 of 12, he was stuck on the outside of the field nearest the unfavoured stands' rail for the majority of the race and, although he ran on in the closing stages while edging across the track, the main action had developed towards the far side and they had too much of a lead for him to overhaul.
