Newmarket Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with his selections for a £100,000 guaranteed pool

There is a £100,000 guarantee for the Placepot at Newmarket and there could be an upset in the opener (1.15). I’m keen to take on favourites Damysus and Gladius with First Conquest, who appears to have been trained for this race. It’s also worth including Torito at big prices.

The Zetland Stakes (1.50) comes up next and Godolphin may hold the key again. Look To The Stars is the choice of William Buick, but don’t discount their second string Del Maro.

There are only seven declared for the Autumn Stakes (2.25), which makes it another difficult one to negotiate. Stick with both of Godolphin's runners again — Al Zanati and Archer Royal.

Distant Storm is the most exciting juvenile in training and rates a banker in the Dewhurst Stakes (3.00), but the following Cesarewitch (3.40) is between Dawn Rising and Beylerbeyi.

The 7f nursery (4.15) is the last leg and it’s another race with only two places on offer. Godolphin’s Pacifica Pier should be included alongside the in-form colt Blue To Blue.

World Pool: Conquest and Torito to make a tidy Exacta

I'm keen to take on the market leaders in the opening Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes (1.15) at Newmarket and there could be some value in a World Pool Exacta.

The bet requires punters to pick two horses to finish in the first two in the correct order and First Conquest is one of my best bets of the day. He has a good record at Newmarket and looks certain to run well again here, following a promising fourth at Haydock last time when he had to carry a penalty.

Take him to beat Torito, who is fresh for the time of year after just one run at Royal Ascot in June and could bounce back to form over the same course and distance as when third to the classy Liberty Lane last year.
