Newbury Placepot tips: Paul Kealy's perm for the £100,000 guaranteed pool

Pinhole strikes me as a favourite to oppose for Placepot purposes in Newbury's opener (1.50). He did win easily last time but was running against a bunch of largely exposed handicappers, and it will be different in Group company.

Epic Poet and Candleford will be much tougher to beat and neither has an issue with fast ground.

I've no issue with Getreadytorumble being favourite for the second (2.25), while Faustus is unbeaten in two at the track and looks an outsider to keep on side.

I'm very much involved in Jumby in the next (3.00). The 2022 Hungerford Stakes winner is the one to beat in my book but I'll add Cracking Gold as cover.

I'm no great fan of More Thunder or Spy Chief in the Hungerford, and will go with recent Lennox winner Witness Stand, who has good form at Newbury as well, and last month's course one-two Rage Of Bamby and King's Gamble.

King's Gamble will definitely appreciate the extra furlong, while Rage Of Bamby, who was causing an upset then but won in commanding fashion, certainly looked as if she would too.

There isn't much to go on in the novice (4.10). Wechaad's Group entries look ambitious at the moment, but he still has the best form of those to have run, while of the newcomers, Slight Of Foot, a half-brother to a Fillies' Mile winner, makes some appeal.

I couldn't rule anything out of the final leg (4.45), so will go with three without being remotely confident in any of them: Renato, Shahbaz and Respiro Solitario.
