Newbury Placepot tips: Paul Kealy with his perm for the £100,000 guaranteed pool

The Tote’s £100,000 Placepot guarantee is at Newbury, where three of the races feature the dreaded dead eight runners at a meeting where forecast overnight rain could affect the participation of plenty.

Enfjaar isn't the best horse in the opener (1.50) on official figures, but he's the only one who ran to the top of his form last time, so looks the most solid. He won't mind any easing of the ground and nor will Bolster, who's interesting at a price on the pick of last autumn's form.

The next (2.25) is trappy but Contacto is fairly consistent and tends to run to his ability on all surfaces, while Artistic Star, too keen when trying 2m4f in the Ascot Stakes at a big price, is worth another go at a less demanding staying trip.

I'm not convinced the Hackwood (2.57) is as competitive as the numbers suggest, so will bank on Elite Status, who has run to Racing Post Ratings of 118 and 119 on his two visits to Newbury, which are figures many of his rivals would do well to get anywhere near to.

Havana Hurricane is the standout in the Super Sprint (3.30), as the odds suggest, but there are 19 runners and only three places, so I'll back-up in the shape of Our Cody, who is progressing nicely for Richard Hughes.

The form horses in the novice (4.10) are Glistening and Consent on Racing Post Ratings, though they must have had problems as neither has managed a run since last year, while the former was twice beaten at odds-on last term. 

Therefore, I'm going with Wujjood, whose winning form is recent, and newcomer Gold Penny, who is a half-sister to the top-class Farhh and a few others who won on their debuts.

The final leg (4.45) is another novice, in which it's hard to get away from Egoli, who showed he'd learned plenty from his debut when bouncing from the stalls and winning tidily in a York maiden last month. He has a Gimcrack entry back there next month.
