Kelso Placepot tips: Tom Segal with his selections for the £50,000 guaranteed pool

It's a tricky day for Placepot punters on Borders National Day at Kelso with four difficult handicaps to navigate.

The big race (2.00) is wide open, but given Sandy Thomson's record in the race Grozni looks worth including as he can compete off a lower mark than when fourth in the Scottish National, while the Evan Williams-trained Neo King stays forever and is relatively unexposed. 

The Other Mozzie is three from four over fences at distances between 2m to 2m2f, and he ran well over a trip too far in the Paddy Power Gold Cup when last seen. He is a solid pick in the 2m1f handicap chase (2.37) and goes into the perm along with Saint Segal, who has been in terrific form this season.   

The two other handicaps are not of the same quality but will still be hard to unravel. Al Kalila looks a safe choice in the 2m7½f novice handicap chase (1.30), but add in Skuna Bay, who looked good over hurdles last time and should make up into a better chaser, while Glen Road and Rememberthename looked two of the more likely types in the 2m6½f handicap hurdle (12.20).

The novice hurdles look the ones for bankers in order to keep the perm manageable. Great Fleet has much the best form in the 2m maiden hurdle (11.50), while Biglesisback comes into the 2m5f mares' novice hurdle (12.55) on the back of a good performance at Hexham.
