Ascot Placepot tips: Paul Kealy with his perm for the £150k guaranteed pool

The Tote’s £150,000 Placepot guarantee is at Ascot on Saturday, which starts with a seven-runner novice (1.10). New Monarch appears to have easily the best form, but it has hardly been advertised, so I'll add one other just in case, with the vote going to Wechaad.

In the next (1.40), there did not appear to be any fluke about Flowerhead's second in the Queen Mary despite her price, and she seems certain to relish another furlong, while Fitzella's latest fourth came in a red-hot Albany, so they look the two to concentrate on.

Royal Dress is arguably the form horse in the Valiant Stakes (2.20), but she's not always the most consistent, so can't  be considered a banker. Jancis has a wide draw to stay out of trouble and her best form puts her right in the mix.

The International (3.00) requires some coverage, and my outsiders Kodi Lion and Sword are going to be joined by their respective apparent first-string stablemates Billyjoh and Akkadian Thunder.

I quite like Cosi Bello in the fifth (3.35), but I'd better add something over the other side of the track just in case it turns into a draw race, and Fearnot, third in the Britannia, fits the bill nicely.

The King George (4.10) is the final leg, which could well rest between Coronation Cup first and second Jan Brueghel and Calandagan.

The latter didn't look as if he wanted to go past at Epsom, but it may have been the track and the genuinely easy ground, and with conditions more in his favour here he gets the nod, not least because I wouldn't be sure about Jan Brueghel in first-time cheekpieces (trainer 0-17 in Group 1s with that first-time headgear since 2015).

World Pool tip

By Robbie Wilders

The World Pool returns to Ascot and the Princess Margaret Stakes (1.40) market is dominated by Queen Mary and Albany also-rans.

Flowerhead, Staya and Fitzella have squeaks in an open race, but there are mixed messages on the strength of those formlines, and it may be worth looking elsewhere in the pursuit of value.

The Empress Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket was run in a good time and the form received a boost when fifth Anthelia landed the Super Sprint.

Midnight Tango, who kept on promisingly from off the pace into second, is selected for the Swinger.

As is Empress fourth Amberia. She lacked experience compared to the others that day.

9 Midnight Tango
