Ascot Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway advised a perm that won £277.20 at Kempton on Wednesday and is back with his picks

The Tote are putting up a £100,000 guarantee for the Placepot at Ascot and course winner Samuel Spade goes into the perm in the opening 2m5½f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle (12.40). It’s also worth including his Ben Pauling-trained stablemate Whatsupwithyou.

The 2m5½f maiden hurdle (1.15) could be between the promising Big Ticket and Gaelic Pride. It’s an open race and therefore worth including both of them.

Bluey was second at Exeter on Thursday so is unlikely to line up in the 2m1f novice limited handicap chase (1.50). That will mean just four runners, so the winner will be needed. Excelero, Stencil and Vanderpoel look to have the best chances, so put all three of them in.

The 1m7½f handicap hurdle (2.25) is another difficult one. King William Rufus will have a massive chance provided the ground isn’t too soft, while Non Stop could also run a big race.

No Questions Asked and Jax Junior are the two to concentrate on in the 2m3f novice chase (3.00), while we'll bank on The Walk in the bumper (3.35) if the ground is not too soft. Joe Tizzard's four-year-old was a winner over course and distance last month.
