1pt winAndrew Balding has had such a good return to racing following the lockdown that it's no surprise bookmakers are not taking any chances with his runners.

Balding's last-time-out winner Rodin was immediately installed as favourite for the MansionBet's Royal Ascot Special Handicap (2.40) at Newbury once the declarations were made and, given the form of the yard, you have to give the three-year-old some respect.

However, Rodin's victory at Southwell in February came on his fifth attempt in novice/maiden company and he scraped home by a head at odds of 4-6 without showing any improvement on his previous efforts, so you would be hard pushed to make him market leader for a race that features quite a few more lightly raced types who could have a bit up their sleeves.
