Tom Segal with a manageable Placepot perm on tricky Sandown card

Credit: Alan Crowhurst

There aren't that many runners in the Placepot races at Sandown but most of the contests are highly competitive and it would be risky to bank on the inexperienced If The Cap Fits in the three-runner Future Stars Intermediate Chase (2.25).

He's is undoubtedly the class horse in the race and he looked good on his chase debut at Ffos Las, but Sandown is a difficult track for a novice and it's best to include Pym in any perm for safety reasons.

Hopefully all eight will line up in the opening conditional jockey's handicap hurdle (12.40) to make things easier. While it's possible to make a case for every runner, Espion and Gortroe Joe might be the best handicapped.

Flegmatik jumped well on his chase debut and is the obvious one in the Guildford Novices' Limited Handicap Chase (1.15), but I would also include the Nicky Henderson-trained Igor as he goes well fresh.

Dan Skelton, who trains Flegmatik, has a good chance of winning the Kingston Handicap Hurdle (3.00) with Faivoir, while Your Darling should have come on a lot for his comeback run and will be hard to keep out of the frame in the novices' hurdle (1.50) earlier on the card.

The closing leg, the Veterans' Handicap Chase (3.30), is the highlight for most neutrals but not an easy race to cover in the Placepot.

The two I like are Sametegal, who ran well on his return and looks sure to go close under top 5lb claimer Bryan Carver, and Crosspark, who will like the ground and always goes well when ridden by Harry Skelton.
