Tom Segal with a couple of bankers on a tricky Lingfield card

Credit: Harry Trump

Low-quality handicaps at Lingfield would normally be on my list of things to avoid and trying to crack the Placepot isn't going to be easy. However, it should be possible to make the perm more manageable by banking on Cardano in the 1.40.

Cardano was a comfortable winner of a similar race last time and a repeat of that form would make him the one to beat.

Catch My Breath came from a long way back to win at the track recently and will be hard to kick out of the frame in the mile handicap (2.10), but the other races the three-runner finale will need at least a couple of selections.

The two divisions of the mile-and-a-quarter handicap that kick off the card are really difficult and like most contests of this type at Lingfield, the run of the race will be crucial.

Narjes and Music Major are on fair handicap marks and make most appeal in the opener (12.40), while Famous Dynasty caught the eye over course and distance this month and should be competitive in the second division (1.10). However, he will need some luck given his running style, so it's worth including Zayriyan as well.

It's difficult to rule out many in the 2.40 but Kylla Looks is consistent and Ahorsecalledwanda ran well over course and distance two weeks ago.

The final leg (3.10) will make or break the size of the dividend because all three runners are in good form and have won recently, so will be popular.

Obtuse is on a five-timer but he is stepping up a couple of classes. Instead, it may be best to stick with Warrior Brave, who ran a good time when second in a decent contest at Wolverhampton recently.
