Tom Segal thinks Plumpton Placepot can be landed with small outlay
The Placepot at Plumpton looks tricky and it would be possible to have a very large perm and for the dividend to be quite small if the obvious happens. Consequently, it may be safer to keep the outlay small and hope for a few surprises.
The opening novice hurdle (12.18) might actually be the trickiest of all the races because nothing has convincing form outside of the hot favourite Smurphy Enki, who is a likely absentee after lining up in the Tolworth on Saturday.
Bay Of Intrigue will appreciate the drop back in trip after pulling too hard last time and falling when tired. He has the best form but is far from a safe choice and it is probably worth putting in Iron Mike too, as he will also benefit for the drop back to 2m.
The novice chase (12.48) is a classy contest and Thebannerkingrebel looks the solid one. However, he has a penalty for winning a race when he was the only finisher and Up The Straight jumped well on his chase debut at Ascot and has had a wind operation since.
Gary Moore seldom leaves a Plumpton meeting without a winner or two and he has loads of decent chances. One of the best ones appears to be Right Hand Of God in the 2m handicap hurdle (1.20).
He will appreciate the drop back to the minimum trip having appeared not to stay over further here last time.
In the 2m4½f novice hurdle (1.53) Annual Invictus looks a safer prospect than the Moore-trained Dorking Lad, who should be placed but will have to jump better than he did at Market Rasen last week.
Moore also saddles the favourite in the Sussex National (2.25) in Benevolentdictator, who has been totally transformed by fences. He will go well but is up in class and the weights. Salty Boy is preferred after his excellent effort in the Tommy Whittle last time.
Finally, Oxwich Bay is pretty consistent and will be hard to keep out of the places in the handicap chase (2.58) on ground he will like.
