The forecasters can't seem to agree over how much rain there will be at Ascot this afternoon, so at this stage it's pretty hard to make any hard-and-fast assumptions about what the ground will be like or where the best place on the track will be.

Hopefully there won't be enough to change conditions markedly, because it will be great to see last year's superstar juvenile, Shalaa, back on the track in the John Guest Bengough Stakes (3.05).

He has form on all ground types, so the weather shouldn't be too much of an issue, but his form doesn't look as good now as it did at the time and, having been off for over a year, he is surely worth taking on.
