Tom Collins tells you who to bank on in your Wetherby Placepot perm

Credit: Edward Whitaker

Landing the Wetherby Placepot won't be easy given there are a couple of potential busters in the middle of the card, but it is sure to attract the biggest pot and winners could be paid generously.

The market for the opening conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle (11.45) will be pretty fluid but the likely favourites – Sometimes Always and Devour – are worth siding with on the back of highly promising efforts on their first outings outside of novice company.

I'm willing to take a risk in the 2m maiden hurdle (12.15) and leave out First Impression, who ran in a Listed race last time but jumped poorly. Instead, three-year-old filly Flat White, who finished a good second on her hurdling debut, and unexposed Flat recruit Yulong Magicreef are selected.

Neil Mulholland hasn't wasted any time getting Exelerator Express over fences and he should make the places in the 1m7f handicap chase (12.50). Also include Funambule Sivola, who is potentially well treated off a mark of 112.

Despite returning from a 347-day absence The Mulcair is banker material in leg four (1.20), while it is impossible to take on Soaring Glory in the 2m novice hurdle (1.50).

The best race on the card (2.25) ends the perm, but it is certainly not an easy one to decipher. This is extremely trappy and I could make a case for all of them except Azzuri, who needs quick ground.

Course-and-distance winner Ballyvic Boru is the safe option, while talented hurdler Smarty Wild stands out as the biggest improver in the line-up providing his jumping holds up.
