Tom Collins takes on several favourites in his Newbury Placepot perm
Following a spate of cancelled jumps meetings, Newbury's Wednesday card has attracted a big number of entries with four of the six Placepot races set to feature 14 or more runners.
Hoi Polloi is the formsetter in the opening 2m½f novice hurdle (12.55) but he jumped poorly last time and the ground may also inconvenience him. I'd rather stick with impressive point winner Gallyhill and Robin's Dream, who represents the in-form Gary Moore stable.
Hopefully all eight line up in the following handicap chase (1.25) so we get the first three places. Course winner Harambe and Funambule Sivola rate as confident picks.
In a bid to make it pay well, I'll avoid the two favourites in the mares' novice hurdle (2.00). Irish recruit Phillapa Sue can land a blow, as could talented bumper performer Lady In Hiding.
The 2m½f handicap hurdle (2.30) could be dominated by two unexposed runners at the bottom of the weights in Heart Of A Lion and Naizagai, with the latter having hit the frame in every start this year.
The penultimate leg (3.05) has the potential to throw up a surprising result. In-form Miss Heritage and last-time-out winner Dame Du Soir are selected, but any of the nine could feature.
Smart novice hurdler Breaking Waves, who is fitted with first-time cheekpieces, interests me in the closer (3.35). Don't miss impressive recent winner Ouro Branco either.
