The Punt nap

Hickory (4.48 Ascot)

Only 2lb higher than when beating a subsequent winner over the course and distance in July and ran well when best of those on the far side of the group at Newmarket last time.

Handicappers' nap

Shiplake (7.24 Kempton)

A big improver around the turn of the year, and shaped well back on the all-weather when fourth in a higher grade at Southwell last month. Finished just behind a subsequent winner there and should find this run to suit.

Eyecatcher

Ozat (4.48 Ascot)

James Doyle's mount has run well on both previous visits to Ascot, including last time when finishing well from off the pace in a race that wasn't run to suit. With a headwind predicted, he should enjoy getting cover and being delivered late.

Speed figures

Classic (4.48 Ascot)

Rarely runs a bad race and continues to creep up the handicap. However, he clocked a career-best speed figure in the Golden Mile at Goodwood last time and should go close again.

Dark horse

Blue Rc (4.48 Ascot)

Consistent performer who has put in some very respectable efforts in defeat this season, most notably coming second over this course and distance in the Royal Hunt Cup in June. Was disappointing last time out here but should be firmly in the frame if able to bounce back from that run.

Newmarket nap

Rogue Crusader (5.54 Kempton)

Peter Chapple-Hyam has been back among the winners recently and this son of Persian King has shown promise in his work on the Al Bahathri.
