There have been 21 races restricted to mares at the Cheltenham Festival and Britain has won precisely two of them. One of them was when Roksana was handed the race by Benie Des Dieux's fall at the last and the other was the inaugural running of the Mares' Hurdle in 2008 when only two Irish horses turned up.
