The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Friday
BANKER
Star Rock(2.25 Newmarket)
This isn't the strongest race for the grade and although it has been dominated by three-year-olds in recent times (eight of the last ten winners), I'm happy to side with the four-year-old Star Rock. Hughie Morrison's filly, who has never finished outside the top five in ten starts, has proven herself more than capable of landing a Group 3 contest with placed efforts in stronger company the last twice and she looks the class act of the field. Beaten just a length by Pilaster and Maid Up in the Lillie Langtry at Glorious Goodwood, Star Rock went one better to finish runner-up in a Group 2 at Baden-Baden last time and still looks to be improving. Oisin Murphy is aboard for the first time but given the form of the star jockey, would you want anyone else up? I don't think so.
GOOD THING
In a race likely to be dominated by two recent scorers who sit at the top of the weights, I think Saryshagann, who took my eye a lot more than Daawy did when winning last time, will come out on top. David O'Meara's ex-French-trained grey finally showed some of his ability for his new yard when stepped up to a mile on soft ground at Ayr last week following a number of disappointments. You can put those down to the inability to handle quick ground over sprinting distances, as the way he hit the line last time suggested a mile is as short as he wants to go. Now stepping up in trip to 1m2½f, Saryshagann looks an even better betting proposition, especially given he's 3lb well in under a penalty.
