BANKER

Presenting Julio (4.55 Cheltenham)

Gordon Elliott's ten-year-old had a solid summer campaign last season, which included five victories, before being sent off a relatively warm order in this race under today's rider Jamie Codd. He travelled really sweetly throughout but encountered traffic problems on more than one occasion and looked an unlucky loser in fifth. This has almost certainly been his target ever since (best on good ground and missed majority of the summer) and he's now 1lb lower than 12 months ago. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the subject of a gamble.

EYECATCHER

(5.10 Newbury)

Alex Hales's five-year-old mare is a stout stayer over this 2m trip and I'm hoping Elisha Whittington, who rides for the first time, can deliver her inside the final furlong to land this prize. A winner at Doncaster on rain-softened good ground earlier in the year, Methag fairly sauntered through that race and was really quite taking in the way she was able to put the race to bed with one fair swoop. She has run consistently off higher marks in four runs since but has just been given too much to do. She looks a certainty for place money at the very least.
