BANKER

Bahrikate (2.55 Perth)

This five-year-old mare was only rated 41 on the Flat after nine runs, but has been much better since moving to trainer Susan Corbett and sent over hurdles and can follow up her victory in this race 12 months ago. She sprung a 33-1 surprise that day on just her fifth start in the code, but has proved it wasn't a fluke with decent efforts since and now finds herself running off a mark 15lb higher. She's been extremely consistent this year and, although she's not particularly well treated anymore and is carrying the most weight she's experienced, if she runs to the same level as when second last time out she'll prove very tough to beat.

STAT ATTACK

Black Mischief (7.25 Kempton)

Aine O'Connor has won on 50 per cent of her rides for Harry Fry (3-6, +£7.75 for a £1 level stake) and she looks to have a great chance of enhancing that record aboard Black Mischief. This six-year-old is still open to plenty of improvement having had just nine starts to date and will relish the return to quicker ground. He looked a useful prospect in maiden and novice hurdles at the start of last year – was going to win on debut in that sphere when crashing out at the last and then went on to beat the now 122-rated Get Rhythm by 11 lengths. He's run respectably the last twice but the give in the ground wouldn't have suited and today is his day.

GOOD THING

Visionary (7.05 Chelmsford)

I'm almost certain Visionary is well handicapped and he should be able to score in this company following a decent reappearance run at Doncaster. Robert Cowell's four-year-old has a good record on the all-weather (two wins and two places from five starts) and now finds himself just 1lb higher than when last scoring in this sphere. He was forced into running in Group company at the end of last season, which he unsurprisingly found tough, but looked like he maintained his ability when only fading late on in his return to action this year in Listed class. Now dropped into Class 3 company, he should score and he's my best – and biggest – bet of the day.

EYECATCHER

Identity Thief (5.30 Punchestown)

Top-class performer between 2014 and 2016 but completely lost his way last year and didn't show much on his return in February. However, he caught the eye of many when second in the Grade 2 Red Mills Trial Hurdle in February and built on that with a cracking effort when fourth behind Buveur D'Air in the Champion Hurdle. Stepped up a mile in trip when last seen in the Grade 1 Ryanair Stayers Hurdle at Aintree, Identity Thief put in his best performance for a long time when winning by five lengths and looks a useful prospect over this trip. Bacardys is a cliff horse for me and I'm sure he'll be the biggest danger, but Identity Thief will only improve at this distance and looks the one to be on.
