BANKER

(2.55 Wetherby)

Sam Spinner is rated 24lb higher than any of his five rivals in this novice chase but it's hard to take those ratings literally, especially given Sam Spinner's jumping faults over the smaller obstacles, and it might pay to side with the unexposed Beakstown. Dan Skelton's imposing six-year-old is going to be far better over fences than he was hurdles, yet he still managed to record a Grade 2 victory in that sphere. He only had four runs over hurdles and was last seen being pulled up in the Ballymore, but that was a tough task and he can get back to winning ways on his return from a break.

GOOD THING

(5.05 Wetherby)

David Maxwell and Philip Hobbs have a few interesting runners at Wetherby today and Ecu De La Noverie stands out as a great bet at the forecast price of around 5-1. This French import recorded form figures of 1232 in four starts for his new connections last season, with his victory coming on the back of a 291-day break against some talented rivals. The runner-up, Mister Fisher, went on to land a Grade 2, while subsequent dual Grade 1-winner Reserve Tank was down the field. Ecu De La Noverie couldn't back that up but raced with the choke out on a couple of occasions and providing he settles a little better here, he should go very close.
