The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Saturday afternoon
BIG-RACE BANKER
Paul Nicholls has farmed the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup in recent times, notching five successes in the last ten years, and he has a great chance to add to his haul with Secret Investor. The seven-year-old, who won twice in the spring, returned with an encouraging effort when second to the talented Real Steel at Down Royal last month, and should come on plenty for the outing. He remains unexposed over fences after just six starts and could be leniently treated off his mark of 150.
GOOD THING
There are plenty of potential improvers in this Albert Bartlett trial and it will take a pretty useful conveyance to take the prize. That could be Igor, who hinted at ability in two starts at Ascot this time last year and bumped into a good one at Newton Abbot in May. He returned from another break with an extremely taking performance last month, clearing away from 13 rivals under a front-running ride over 2m3½f, hinting that a step up in trip would be in order. He gets just that here and although he has plenty to find on form alone, he really caught the eye with the way he won last time and I think he is well up to going close in this company.
EYECATCHER
Funny Kid (12.50 Newcastle)
The British contingent don't look strong for this fast-track qualifier, albeit Mildenberger would have crystal clear claims at his best, and it could be set up for the French-trained Funny Kid. Christophe Ferland's runner has form figures of 21 when coming over to these shores (win came in Marathon on All-Weather Championships Finals day) and is a strong stayer over this kind of trip, which is a big plus on Newcastle's long straight. You have to forgive a never-sighted effort in the Group 1 Prix du Cadran on heavy ground last time, but it's not hard to do that given the class of the race and conditions, and he has been freshened up ahead of this challenge.
