The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips for Glorious Goodwood

BANKER

Threat(2.25 Goodwood)

Richard Hannon targets the Richmond Stakes with his best two-year-old year-on-year and has a huge chance of landing the prize again with Threat. This Cheveley Park-owned colt stamped himself as a Group-class performer with an easy debut victory at Newmarket, before going very close when second behind Arizona in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. He had a tricky passage through that day on his first run over six furlongs, but rattled home from the back of the field to only go down by half a length to an extremely talented rival. He holds a number of these on that form and is well drawn away from the rail in stall one.

GOOD THING

Forest Of Dean(1.50 Goodwood)

An improver since being upped in trip to 1m2f, John Gosden's Forest Of Dean must holds huge claims with just 8st 4lb on his back having been freshened up since a fine fourth at Newbury. That came in the London Gold Cup, often the best early-season three-year-old handicapper of the year, and he was far from disgraced being beaten just under four lengths. The winner, Headman, has subsequently boosted the form in much better company, and Forest Of Dean finds himself better off with runner-up Sinjaari to the tune of 7lb. Frankie Dettori clearly can't ride at such a low weight, but if he was onboard I think we would be talking around 3-1 for Forest Of Dean. Because he's not, you can get almost double the price.

EYECATCHER

Full Verse (4.10 Goodwood)

It has long been a rule that you should focus on those towards the top of the weights in nurseries and Full Verse, who has clearly shown the most ability in this race and was highly regarded by trainer Charlie Appleby before his debut sixth, looks to put that trend to good use. He was far too green on his first start at Newmarket, but showed a massive jolt of improvement to take third in what now looks an extremely hot novice event at Ascot won by Ventura Rebel. Both of those runs came over 5f, but he looked equally good over 6½f last time out when he broke his duck. He changed his legs numerous times, hung left and idoled in front but still managed to win (three subsequent winners) and I think a fast pace here will suit him down to the ground.
