A three-year-old son of Shamardal out of dual Group 1-winning mare La Collina, big things would have been expected from Ice Cave and he clearly disappointed on his first two outings, finishing sixth and seventh in a couple of all-weather maidens in the spring. He was given a break after those, clearly needing the time to develop and mature, and returned a much improved colt, winning by four lengths at this track last month. It wasn't much of a race but he cleared away in taking fashion and is surely well treated on handicap debut off a mark of 84.
