BANKER

Top Notch(2.05 Ascot)

Nicky Henderson's six-year-old was a top-class novice chaser last season, winning four from seven starts including the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novice Chase at Sandown. He was a brilliant second to Yorkhill in the JLT before disappointing at Aintree where a long season had probably taken its toll. He ran a solid race over hurdles on his seasonal reappearance at Aintree last time out and a repeat of his JLT run, of which the form has been franked a few times already this season, should see him take this Grade 2 contest. EYECATCHER

Gortroe Joe (12.10 Haydock)

Thrown into the deep end in a maiden hurdle at Cheltenham. They didn’t go a great gallop and he was settled towards the rear, but the progress he made two from home was electric - by then the leaders were away but he was only narrowly denied for second. The winner, Slate House, has since gone on to win a Grade 2 and the second, Dans Le Vent won by 6 lengths at Market Rasen on Thursday. (Maddy Playle)

DARK HORSE

Cepage (3.15 Ascot)

Despite having to run from 6lb out of the handicap Cepage looks a touch of value at 14-1 in the Shawbrook Handicap Chase. An easy winner on his first start for Venetia Williams, he failed to build on that subsequently, looking to lose confidence after a fall. However, still only a five-year-old and with another summer on his back, he's open to improvement and first-time-out could be the time to catch him for a stable starting to hit their stride.
