Three horses to put in a multiple at Royal Ascot on Thursday

Catalina Delcarpio (3.40 Ascot)

Catalina Delcarpio won a historically strong maiden in a cosy manner at Leopardstown on her debut and looked unlucky not to finish closer when runner-up in the Salsabil Stakes next time to Wemightakedlongway, who then finished fourth in the Oaks. The winner dictated a slow pace that day before kicking away while the selection had to wait for a clear run, so the effort can be marked up, and her pedigree suggests the longer trip will be fine.

Candelari (4.20 Ascot)

Candelari only made his debut in December but has taken giant strides in his five starts. He was outpaced when held up in a falsely run 1m7f Group 3 but stayed on strongly to be beaten just two heads. He emphatically reversed the form in the Group 1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier last time, which was a more truly run race. The times suggest the ground was quicker than the good to soft advertised, so the surface should be fine, and looks a fine staying prospect.

Gleneagle Bay (6.10 Ascot)

Gleneagle Bay has caught the eye on a few occasions, notably when travelling strongly in the Irish Lincoln on his reappearance but just failing to see out the mile on soft ground having raced keenly. His two starts over seven furlongs on good ground have seen him beaten just a length and a quarter when trying to concede 8lb to a horse now rated 91 and go down by a head in a Premier handicap at Leopardstown. He finished a close third in the Victoria Cup last time. That was a fine effort, considering he was waited with and had to make his ground up away from the others, and he should cope with a 3lb rise.
