The Punt Acca: Robbie Wilders' three horse racing tips at Newbury on Friday
Balco Coastal (12.45 Newbury)
Only ran one bad race last season when struggling in soft ground at Sandown, but went close in a Grade 2 novice hurdle and placed in a good handicap at Aintree, and a mark of 133 could easily underestimate him for his chasing debut. This going is optimal for this highly regarded six-year-old.
Stage Star(1.55 Newbury)
Grade 2-winning novice hurdler who beat West Cork a similar distance on his chasing debut at Warwick as Arkle favourite Jonbon did, and appears to have improved for a fence. Receives 5lb from main market rival Beauport, who would prefer a slower surface, and this looks an outstanding opportunity.
Champ(3.05 Newbury)
Top class on his day and his two standout efforts in each of the last two seasons came first time out. He ran to an RPR of 170 on his belated comeback in February 2021 and 163 first time out last winter, so looks to have a solid chance in the Long Distance Hurdle. This test should suit Champ better than Paisley Park, while Proschema is respected but needs to improve.
