Susan Corbett's six-year-old has come to hand in recent runs, winning two of his last three starts. Most recently, he took up the lead powerfully at Hexham over 2m and was very good value for the winning margin. Stepping up in distance should prompt further improvement and his record under Dillan Hurst reads 44131, which augurs well for another big effort.

Ballyporeen(12.45 Musselburgh)

Handicaps should be the making of Ballporeen, who has shaped with promise in three novice hurdling starts since joining Rebecca Menzies. He has posted Racing Post Ratings of 104 on all three occasions and an opening mark of 109 does not look harsh. Having stayed on to good effect over 2m6½f on his second start, this new trip should bring out the best in him, and he can make a winning start at this easier level.

Evenstar(1.30 Chelmsford)

A well-bred daughter of Havana Grey, Evenstar made a promising start when third at Southwell two weeks ago. The horses who finished ahead of her both had the benefit of experience and she can only improve for that pleasing introduction. George Boughey's horses are in excellent form and Kevin Stott has a strong strike-rate at Chelmsford to boot.
