Venturous (2.39 Wolverhampton)

The BetUK's Acca Club £5 Free Bet Handicap features lots of reopposing rivals. Last year's winner Tone The Barone and the 1-2 from 2020, Venturous and Lord Riddiford, all met over this course and distance in February 2021. Venturous may have been fourth that day but he was giving 9lb to both of those rivals and was only just over a length back. There is no doubt he is well handicapped off a mark of 99, having last won an all-weather handicap off 103, and the race should set up for his fast-and-late style with both Tone The Barone and Lord Riddiford fighting for the lead from the off.

Astro Jakk (3.09 Wolverhampton)

Since joining Darryll Holland, Astro Jakk has become seriously well handicapped after a string of down-the-field efforts, but the drop to Class 5 company last time saw an improved performance. That came over this course and distance in November, despite the fact he completely blew the start and was being pushed along from an early stage. He finished well to be beaten only three and a half lengths, and considering his last victory came off a mark 16lb higher than he is now, it would be disappointing if he didn't go close under a jockey who is value for his 7lb claim.

Selfish Brian (3.39 Wolverhampton)

Since joining Nigel Tinkler in October, Selfish Brian has put in three solid runs over a variety of trips. He looked to be going better than anything else over 1m6f here on his penultimate start only to be outstayed, and put up an even better performance last time when finishing second. That was over 1m3f at Southwell when he stayed on strongly towards the finish, missing out by just half a length, so this extra furlong should suit. He remains 1lb below his last winning mark and on the strength of his recent runs, he definitely has a race of this nature in him.
