Aintree Placepot picks: Paul Kealy provides his perm for Grand National day
The Placepot on Grand National day is never straightforward as we have two big-field handicaps to deal with before we even get to the big one.
Fortunately there do look to be a couple of bankers on the card in Arkle winner (3.00) and Stayers' Hurdle hero (3.35), who runs here instead of Punchestown as connections now believe he has to go left-handed.
That will get the perm down to a certain extent, but the other races will need coverage, including the opening 3m handicap hurdle (1.45).
is the first on my list for this and he is joined by , who may appreciate this track more than Cheltenham, and , who has a tasty hurdles mark and ran well here in November.
I'll be taking on the front two in the next (2.25) with Good Risk At All primed to show he's a serious animal, and forgiven his Cheltenham flop back on a flat track and in a first-time hood which will hopefully help him to settle.
Shan Blue is obviously lobbed in for the 3m1f handicap chase (4.15) if you believe his Charlie Hall form, but he was tame at Cheltenham and needs to prove himself in a big field.
ought to go well after an excellent third in the Ultima, while appeals as potentially well handicapped going up in trip.
I'll go with four in the National (5.15) itself, with my two main bets and joined by and .
