Newbury Placepot picks: Paul Kealy opens up with a banker
Aso is the class act in the opener at Newbury (1.15), but 3m2f would be his absolute stamina limit and with Venetia Williams having a quiet spell, he can be opposed for Placepot purposes.
has run two cracking races this season, shaping as though he does stay, and he should be hard to kick out of the frame.
and are my two in the next (1.50), while is hard to leave out of the third (2.27) after winning so easily when a huge gamble at Warwick on his debut for Fergal O'Brien last time.
The enigma that is Sprinter Sacre's brother, , was a well-beaten sixth then, but he did run on late, is well handicapped even on his disappointing form, and could step up on his second run after a wind op.
If the ground isn't too bad and he stands up, Glory And Honour is the one to beat in the next (3.02), but he's hardly a Placepot horse, so I'll go instead with , who ran a blinder in the Betfair Hurdle, and , who didn't shape too badly at Musselburgh last time and could be on the way back.
In the next (3.37), has become well handicapped, ran well in a fair race at Ascot last time, and ought to take some stopping with a 10lb claimer up. is another chucked in on old form and has been running okay lately.
The last (4.12) is a tricky little heat, and we'll go with the progressive and outsider , who has two good Newbury runs to his name.
