I'm not convinced by likely odds-on favourite Hassaad, who was sold cheaply after a pretty encouraging debut and beat absolutely nothing at Brighton last time out. He faces a stiffer task today and he might find Desert Land, a six-race maiden, too good. David Simcock's colt looks rather exposed on paper but could be a different horse now finally dropped to the minimum trip. He showed decent form over 7f but never got home and then couldn't live with the promising Call Me Ginger at Redcar last time when well backed before the off. That was his first run back from a break and he's sure to improve.

A fast early pace and a plot draw in stall one should see Desert Fox, a course specialist at Chelmsford with four victories to his name, go very close under Rossa Ryan. The five-year-old, who is yet to win anywhere else, has been running well this season and almost backed up a strong-staying victory (first-time cheekpieces) with another score here last month, but for running into trouble at a crucial stage. He was an unlucky loser that day when the headgear was surprisingly left off and it's no surprise to see it back on today.
