'The 7-1 about him winning the Gold Cup looks a perfectly reasonable price'

It's not beyond the realms of possibility – far from it – that Newcastle racegoers on Saturday saw the winner of the Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup.

There is nothing much left to say about Constitution Hill's majestic performance in the Fighting Fifth. Most horses, even the great ones, have little faults somewhere in their make-up, but I'm struggling to find anything Constitution Hill does wrong. He has the perfect temperament, he settles like a lamb, jumps like a stag and stays forever. Throw that in with enormous ability and it's pretty hard to see him ever being beaten.

L'Homme Presse has some faults. He made a bad mistake on Saturday in the Rehearsal Chase and jumped badly out to his right at Ascot last season, but he does everything so easily and I'd forgotten just how brilliant he was in the Brown Advisory last season.
