Take a chance on gritty three-year-old at a course that favours front-runners

The recent record of three-year-olds in the opening 1m4f handicap on day three of York's Ebor festival is poor, but Mark Johnston is never afraid to enter one of his battle-hardened, younger inmates into a competitive contest and Persian Moon is well worth a second look.

Johnston, who went close in this race two years ago with three-year-old Londinium, has booked Silvestre de Sousa to take the ride on Persian Moon, a notable booking given De Sousa has been aboard for two of Persian Moon's three victories, which include a score at this track last year over seven furlongs.
