Surprise results ensure big Placepot

>>The Placepot at Newbury paid £2,291.70 after surprise results in the opening two maidens.

In the first, Escobar (16-1) beat Devil’s Bridge (4-1) and Red Ensign (25-1), with 5-2 favourite Asaas only fourth, and the next race proved a Placepot buster.

Tiburtina’s 16-1 victory from 25-1 chance Spinnaker Bay and 20-1 shot Beck And Call took out the majority of the units and only 73.75 tickets got to the last. Just 26 of those survived Hitman’s 11-4 win to share £59,586.
