Summer turns up the heat just in time

Summer Chorus came from the clouds to get up on the line under Jimmy Quinn in the 6f handicap at Newmarket after trading at 210 in running on Betfair.

The high numbers had it in the William Hill Great St Wilfrid consolation at Ripon, with Roudee emerging on top in a tight finish after being matched at 65. The winner improved Tom Dascombe to 4-12 in three-year-old-plus handicaps at the track in the last five seasons. It was a similar story in more ways than one in the big one itself, with the stands'-side runners dominating the finish. Nameitwhatyoulike confirmed himself a Ripon specialist by making just about all under Connor Beasley, having also been done at 65. Winning trainer Bryan Smart improved to 4-14 in three-year-old-plus handicaps at the track in the last five seasons.

Time To Exceed continued the fine form of the Henry Candy yard when holding off Soundstrings in the 6f maiden at Doncaster. The runner-up traded at a low-looking 1.11.
