Southwell Placepot picks: Robbie Wilders with his perm for the all-weather card

All eyes will be on Southwell for the £100,000 Placepot guarantee and Ring Of Gold is banked on in the opening 7f handicap (5.30).

Ring Of Gold fared best of the closers when fourth to subsequent winner Zealot here last month and looks dangerous off the same mark.

The in-form Atrafan landed the 7f classified stakes (6.00) last season following a sharp turnaround, and should be revved up to go close again having scored over this course and distance just five days ago.

The 6f handicap (6.30) is one of the most open races on the card. I’ll chance dual course-and-distance winner Della Mare, who has been running well lately, and Tathmeen, who is thrown in on past form and might be able to back up last week’s victory under a 4lb penalty.

Tolstoy will definitely have the feature 5f handicap (7.00) run to suit and is picked along with Kim Wexler, whose connections landed this last year. She is improving quickly.

Nine Elms suffered some interference in the home straight here on his last start and is worth considering in the next (7.30). Midnight Train is a rare Flat runner at Southwell for Nicky Henderson and is still quite unexposed in this sphere, so is also included.

The well-bred Third Batch brings the most solid claims to the table in the Placepot finale (8.00). She was poorly placed in a Lingfield novice this month when finishing powerfully for second.
