Often the best option in big-field handicaps on the spreads is to take a solid option whose win odds are fair but would look a good place-only option. Cliffs Of Capri fits the bill in the Golden Mile.

He is an experienced handicapper, with seemingly little to hide from the handicapper from a career-high mark. That would be a touch unfair, as he has never run better than when chasing home Blue Mist in the International Stakes at Ascot last weekend and BHA marks agree as he is 2lb well in.

He has the pace for seven furlongs, his best form has been at that trip but largely at stiffer tracks than Goodwood. A mile here will be no problem and having a bit of extra speed is no bad thing given the nature of races around here.

The course is also of no concern. Cliffs Of Capri had a busy season in 2019 and two of his three best runs came at Goodwood, including at this meeting. A favourable draw in stall four gives every reason to think that Cliffs Of Capri can reward his backers with at least minor honours, which would guarantee a profit.
