Saturday bets: our experts give their top tips on July Cup day

Handicappers' nap

Zap (3.30 Newmarket)

Not shown much this year but had a couple of wins last year that make him interesting off this sort of mark and has conditions to suit.

Newmarket nap

Hydroplane (8.50 Salisbury)

This son of Pour Moi was fancied at Hamilton last time but was not right that day and is better than he showed there. Sir Mark Prescott's team are on a roll
David Milnes

Eyecatcher

Rise Hall (3.15 York)

Travelled strongly at Newmarket over 1m2f in late June but the winner, Setting Sail, just had too much for him. He's a previous winner over 7f and a mile, and this shorter trip is a positive.

Irish Angle

Finsceal Rose (4.50 Navan)

Gavin Cromwell's filly produced an improved effort on her most recent start when runner-up to stablemate Ally Cay over a mile at Bellewstown. Her performance suggested that the extra two furlongs will suit.
Tony O'Hehir

Spotlight nap

My Lord And Master (3.50 York)

Unraced on fast ground and below par on final two runs last year. Now 1lb lower than when narrowly beaten over course and distance last October, and still lightly raced for trainer who won this in 2011 and 2013. Could have very big say under useful 5lb claimer Cieren Fallon.
Ben Hutton

Dark horse

Stone Of Destiny (1.45 Ascot)

No luck in running in the Wokingham but an excellent fourth in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup here last year. Back down to 5f and looks a player.
Rob Sutton

Must-have stat of the day

Since the start of 2016, Charlie Appleby and James Doyle have figures of 1126315111 (6-10) with two-year-old debutants on Newmarket's July course (+13.62 to £1 level stakes), improving to 11 (2-2) with fillies. Light Blush goes in the 7f fillies' maiden at 1.50.
