Regal Dan worth chancing back at his beloved Doncaster

Six-year-old on a good mark if recapturing best form

Backing a horse who has run well below form on two of his three starts this term, including last time out in a race he won last year, obviously carries risks but Regal Dan has such a good record at Doncaster that he's worth chancing in the Terry Bellas Memorial Handicap (8.10) tonight.

The six-year-old may have won only one of his seven outings on Town Moor, but that tells only half the story as if you discount his two runs when the ground was slower than good to soft, his form figures read 41442 and, more importantly, they include the best three runs of his life according to Racing Post Ratings.

There was no obvious reason for Regal Dan performing so poorly last time (as opposed to his return which came on very soft ground), but his penultimate sixth to Swift Approval in a good race at Catterick proved he retains all his ability.
