Redcar Placepot picks: Tom Segal with his perm on a competitive card

It would be wrong to say the meeting at Redcar is of the highest quality, but there are some competitive races, despite the small fields.

Best of them is the mile handicap (3.50). Azano will set a strong pace and has a chance on old form, but he's been disappointing this season and might set the race up for recent course-and-distance winner Cassy O and especially the unexposed Gorak.

Star Player and Venetian pick themselves in the two divisions of the juvenile maiden, but the other handicaps will need a couple to get through.

On The River, for an in-form yard, and Bearcardishould both run well in the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap over 7f (3.15).

In the concluding Placepot contest (4.55), Simulation Theory and Photograph might be better suited by the quick ground than the only other runner, Regular Income.

The Redcar Cricket Club Handicap (4.25) will take some winning and plenty can be fancied.

Premiership is a maiden but he showed improved form last time and is unexposed in the context of this race. He goes in along with Mac Ailey, who is well enough handicapped on old form and shaped much better at Carlisle recently.
