Rausing filly is clear pick of stable quartet

The field for a 45-75 handicap (6.55) at Ballinrobe this evening has an unusual appearance, with trainer John McConnell supplying the four lowest-rated runners in the race.

Three have little chance on the book, as confirmed by the fact they are competing from out of the handicap. By contrast, it is possible to make a strong case for Kandahari, the mount of Julie Burke.

In common with the other McConnell runners, Kandahari failed to make any significant impact in maidens last season, although it is worth recalling her satisfactory debut effort at Down Royal. It ties in with the form of the Natalia Lupini-trained Blairmayne, whose three outings during June yielded two Fairyhouse wins and a Leopardstown second.
