>>Purser landed a gamble in the opener at Newbury after going off 2-1 second favourite.

John Gosden's newcomer had looked in trouble in behind 15-8 favourite Merlin Magic when that rival kicked on inside the final furlong and touched a low of 1.16 in running on Betfair, but Purser kept on well under only hands and heels to score by a head and make quite a taking impression after trading at 8.8.
